"Marriage Isn't For You" - rebuttal

Marriage Isn't For You

Please, read this article before reading mine, or it will make zero sense.

I loved reading this article.  All I could think about the entire time was "You've been married 1 1/2 years".  It was a very cute story, with an absolute wonderful point.  "Marriage isn't for me..."

You hit the nail on the head, it's about loving the other unconditionally.  Not being selfish but selfless.  Accepting ALL of our faults, annoyances and sometimes bad breath.  I love happy couples.  That have been through the tough stuff, TOGETHER!  They bring me hope.

But Seth, you said something that completely irritated me.  Again, you've been married 1 1/2 years, of which I sincerely hope is a lifetime for you, as it was supposed to be for me.

"It went against the grain of today’s “Walmart philosophy”, which is if it doesn’t make you happy, you can take it back and get a new one." -Seth

Can I get a new marriage Seth?  Nope!  Did I marry her thinking we'd be divorced after 12 years, dragging 3 kids through our mess? Nope! Did I buy her at walmart Seth?  i won't answer that, cuz all i can think of is funny answers.

Please don't say things that you have no clue about.  95% of people out there don't get married with "I can just return it" in the back of their mind.  Nor do we think life is better divorced.  I've been through a lot, and I'm so completely done hearing people that have never experienced divorce say extremely naive things.

Here's my alternative to the "Walmart philosophy":

The better analogy would be "personal debt".  We buy and buy and buy, make quick decisions and purchase not realizing exactly what we bought.  We fall in love and instantly want to get married, and have kids, and a white picket fence, and when we are told we are overthinking things, we get "OH IT'S JUST COLD FEET!!!"

People should wait til they are at the least 25 before entertaining the idea of marriage.  During that time they should find themselves, and not hide themselves in a relationship.  We should think twice, or three times, or 20 times before stepping foot near an alter.  We should be 100% ourselves, and transparent with our person.  Not lying to "get the girl".  If you hate twilight, just tell her you hate it.  And be yourself 1st.  Being Loved for you is the absolute most wonderful feeling in the world.  Don't run to the alter, but don't be afraid of it either.  Marriage is a beautiful thing, and should be saved for those couples that are truly themselves, and love each other 100% of the time.

Seth, everything you said was amazing, keep it up, but don't accidentally judge the less fortunate.
